We were welcomed by Rascal the cat and his human, Noelle.
While taking my wife and two kids on a backpacking trip in the Trinity Alps, we decided to break up the driving by staying the first night in Weaverville before heading into the wilderness. Due to a local event, the only room we could find was at the Whitmore Inn. My wife booked the room that had a private bathroom (most of the rooms share a bathroom), stating that it would be helpful since we had kids. Evidently, Noelle didn't catch that last part, because she greeted us with a bad attitude as soon as she saw that we had children. Repeatedly, she kept passive aggressively saying "I sure wish I had known you were bringing kids", muttering about how she's going to be responsible if the kids injure themselves or run out the front door and get hit by a car and there are breakables in the house and dangerous stairs and the kids will disturb the other guests and this and that; on and on. While bringing our stuff into the room, Noelle ambushed me, going on again about how uncomfortable she is and how she's responsible for anything that happens to the kids and so on. Then she told me that she felt deceived because my wife hadn't told her that we were bringing kids (which isn't true, Noelle was informed, she just wasn't paying attention), and literally suggested that my wife intentionally didn't say so because she thought that Noelle wouldn't rent us the room. She then said that she would have found us another place to stay if everywhere else wasn't already booked up, and asked me if we had relatives in town that we could stay with. SHE DID THIS AFTER CONFIRMING THAT WE HAD SIGNED THE CREDIT CARD SLIP, CONFIRMING PAYMENT. Eventually she left, but the damage had been done. We packed up our things and found a nearby campground (thank heavens we had the gear necessary to do so).
Witch of an innkeeper aside, the house is an attractive Victorian novelty with small rooms, most of which share a bathroom. It looks like it would have been an uncomfortable stay unless you're really into the Victorian decor.
The bed comfy, great water pressure and fluffy towels.
Cheers
Chased off by Noelle's bad attitude, we paid for a room that we didn't even sleep in.
Noelle had succeeded in making us so uncomfortable that we'd rather eat the cost of the room rather than deal with her attitude. Unfortunately, she had made it explicitly clear that there would be no refunds.
Great place
wonderful Victorian Hotel in the historic district of Weaverviille. The gateway to the Trinity alps wilderness area. Beautifully decorated extremely clean and has great beds.
Both were charming, the house is lovely and very inviting. Old time wicker on the deck called my name.

Breakfast was simple but lots of it, we will return.
Only draw back, could have used a small fan or A/C unit in our room. It was over 80 degrees at 8pm in our room. Made sleeping a bit rough.
